Need For Speed Most Wanted install error

Hello,
Need For Speed Most Wanted gives error 'need directx 9 to install'...it is installed...i ran dxdiag.exe and made sure...
Procedure:
1) put in cd
2) when autoplay menu comes up, clicked install
3) error comes up says: Need directx 9 to install
4) rebooted
Tried same procedure with same result.

if your running win7 then you need to give dxinstal admin privs. if you dont the program will run and either complete like it did something or tell you an error occured.
you will know if its working as it will list the files its installing and your mouse pointer will flash.
you need to run the dx setup from the need for speed disk. just running the redist from windows may not be enough.
