I have just upgraded my PC to a ThunderBird 900 200MHZ FSB, with a ECS K7S5A Motherboard, after the upgrade win98se was able to detect everything and everything works find until I jut to run setup, it seem that it will run some setup and some it will just come back with an "illegal operation" anyone experienced a similar problem? here is my setup:

AMD ThunderBird 900 200MHz FSB
256M PC133 Micron RAM
Voodoo 3 3000 AGP
Quantum 20G 7200rpm HD.
DirectX 8.1

Any help would be greatly appericated.

P.S. I have updated to the latest BIOS and installed the SIS AGP gart and it doesn't help any.

Here is a list of setup that won't run:
MS Office 2000
Cyberlink PowerDVD
Photoshop 6

Can you be more specific?

What does work, that is system intensive? That way we can tell if its all kinds of things or just some kinds of things. What did you install before these messages started?

Well, actually after the upgrade we haven't installed much...we installed a fresh copy of win98se, video, sound, modem, build LAN, AGP drivers and that is all, the only apps that I have installed successfully are some real old stuff like:
pkzip 2.5 (32bit)

These are the newer software that I tried to install but it won't:
Photoshop 6
3D Mark 2001
Office 2000

Here is the actual error when it "Autorun" office 2000:

I have a couple of these mobos and am very pleased with them. Everything has installed without a hitch except 3d mark 2000/2001. These I tried to install from a cd-r and I they refused to work even though they work fine on other systems installed from this cd. By downloading fresh copies of 3d 2000/2001 they worked fine.
I have also installed power dvd, photoshop 6 and office 2000 without a hitch. These have been installed onto both a win me + win 2000 machine.
Are you trying to install from a cdr ? maybe this is the problem. Sorry I havent been much help but I wish you luck with it. Once its sorted I think you will be very happy with the mobo.

PS just a wild shot in the dark, but you havent mixed sdr and ddr ram have you ?

no...I only have 1 module 256M PC133.....I know most user with this board use DDR, anyone else uses 200 MHz FSB Tbird with this board?

i have a 900mhz 200fsb athlon in my system, and i have 256megs of ddr...
i have no problems with this board...and can run 3dmark2001 on it as many times as i want, and play games and use photoshop, and use flash5, and so on and so on...
this board is very good...
the only thing is, some people have power supplies that dont put out enough juice, and that can cause problems.
in the bios, check and make sure that the numbers in the hardware monitor match or are at least within a few .00's...
if not, then that might be the culprit...

When I try to install 3D Mark, it comes back and said: "cannot create Direct3D Device"......

hmm......if Tbird 900 with 200Mhz FSB is not the problem, then I am wondering if it's the PC133....

maybe.....but it shouldnt be..
maybe you need to reinstall dx?
also....maybe it is dx8.1
i have 8.0a

Thanks for all the response, I have found my problem, when I turn on DMA on DVD, CD-RW and Hard Drive, all the setup program will fail to soon as I turn it off, it will run again....
However PowerDVD will not run when DMA is turn on so it cause it to drop frame.

Anyone with DDR ram please let me know if you have the same problem.

Thanks in advance,
