1) while trying to install a 2nd display adaptor & monitor, for some reason
the system wanted to treat the primary controller as the secondary controller
too - even though it is only one channel. (Primary is an AGP and Secondary is
PCI - both ATI XP compatible),
2) So "disable" was clicked for the listing of the controller as the
secondary in display settings advanced - 3) It then disabled it as primary
too.
4) So when we boot - all goes well from the bios boot through windows boot
until the windows welcome screen gets done and then we go black. The driver
must now be missing.
5) I removed the second controller.
6) F8 into Safe mode would still not correct so next boot tried "enable VGA
mode" during boot. After that it wont even stop booting with F8 and goes all
the way until the black screen.
7)Have removed both cards, booted, turned off and reinstalled the original -
to see if it would recognize as new but no luck.
8) Have gone to the recovery console but can't figure out what to do to
reactivate (switch) that primary controller if that is all that is needed
- or
9) how to reinstall the ATI driver from recovery console (standard on XP disk)
- or
10) should I do fixboot and have it replace the boot sector - AND what
consequences or losses would I incur?
Thanks
