Hi,

I am an electronics engineer, I basically am looking for a case a bit higher than 2 5.25" bays. The reason I want this is I am working on a project for which I need a case in which I can mount a drive and something else. But I dont want the firewire ports on the back, it is basically a data logger I a building but everything will be designed myself but I need a case to put it in.

Does anyone know where I can get an empty case of this sort?

Firewire ports on the back are a feature of motherboards, not cases. Do you need to use a full length ATX board, or will a Micro ATX board work?

you might want to look at Shuttle's XPC, or perhaps a 2U rackmount chassis would work for you

I know they are part of the Firewire to IDE Bridge but I want just a normal empty case that is very small.

Hmm I looked at the shuttle PC but it looks a little large. Maybe 2U rackmount would be a good idea.

Thanks

I'd probably recommend <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=11-108-276-01.JPG/11-108-276-06.JPG/11-108-276-07.JPG/11-108-276-04.JPG/11-108-276-05.JPG/11-108-276-03.JPG/11-108-276-02.JPG" target="_new">This Little Inwin Case</A> which accepts a Micro ATX board and full height cards. Forget the front connectors if you don't need them, you don't have to use them!

If you can live with half-height card slots, <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=11-130-105-01.JPG/11-130-105-08.JPG/11-130-105-03.JPG/11-130-105-04.JPG/11-130-105-05.JPG/11-130-105-07.JPG" target="_new">This Little Aopen Case</A> would probably be nearly perfect.

There is also <A HREF="http://www.caseoutlet.com/case/4117/CS-4117.html" target="_new">This case style</A> that turns <A HREF="http://www.caseoutlet.com/case/4117/images/4117-Back-Panel-600-New.jpg" target="_new">one of the card slots sideways</A> so you can have 1 full height and 1 half height card.

Of all those examples, the first one is a little larger, while the rest are about the same size as each other. They all support Micro ATX boards, leaving you more choices in motherboards.

Cool thanks, hopefully one of these should be sensible for my electronics.

I e-mailed some companies on the net and none of them replied! So I came here. Thanks....Now I can have a go at getting my project mounted in a box :)

If cost is not much of an issue. Look at hoffman. They make industrial enclosures for the electric field and make industrial PC cases and stuff. Just a thought. Or go with a nema 4 enclosure and make your own penatrations for drives and stuff. just a couple of ideas
