Hey guys.. I've been having some problems with stability, and I think its due to my overloaded 300w psu.. I have an old 200w atx psu that I would like to add to the existing psu, but I am not sure how to do the mod. I'd rather not mod anything on the 300w, if possible I would just like to rig up the 200w seperately and run hdds and fans off of it. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks a lot for the help!
Yes it is quite possible, besides the issues with fitting two PSU's in a standard case.
Apart from that the main issues would be load balancing and getting both PSU's to switch on at the same time.
If you look at a standard ATX mobo connector you will see it has 20 wires.
But only one is green.
To turn a psu on the mobo basically connects the green wire to one of the ground ones (black), competing the circuit and turing the PSU on.
So you need to wire the green wires so they both turn on when you push the button.
Honestly i think its easier to buy a new decent quality 350W psu though... less risky
Interesting project if you are inclined to fiddle though.

A solid state relay circuit could get the job done. You could run this type of circuit in parallel with others like it, and get as many supplies slaved to the master as you wanted. The main things would be load balancing, as mentioned, and timing which shouldn't be an issue if the circuit is right.
I thought about this for a while then went out and bought a bigass supply. Not a bad way to save some bread, or come up with something equivalent to much more than what you can get commercially, but I just got paid and my true power 550 seemed like a good way to be lazy at the time, and it is very quiet.
