I finally got round to installing my cold cathode, but when I tried to boot up it basically didn't and the monitor's LED would just flash. If i flicked the switch on the cathode to turn it off, then booted up, my pc would boot up and work fine. Could it be the power needed by the cathode is just that little more than my PSU can take?

I currently have a 300W Chieftec PSU, according to the label.

Athlon XP 2200+
512 DDR
Geforce 4 Ti 4600 128mb
Audigy
80 and 120 GB Maxtor hdd's
DVD-rom and CD-RW
Thermaltake Xaser III V2000a

Who would be a good manufacturer to buy a more powerful PSU from, bearing in mind i'm gonna buy another hdd at some point and some other stuff.
Also, are there any "techniques" to taking the power out of the motherboard? When I took everything from my old case into the Xaser I had to keep the PSU connected to the motherboard because I didnt want to pull on it too much, i thought it would break if i pulled at it any more.

Thanks for the help

Grab a 350 or 400W Fortron.

Sounds very much like it.
Or somehow the cathodes create a short and the PSU refuses to run for safety reasons.
