I'd say either CPU will work. I just built DAW around an XP 2100+. The rest of the system consists of an ASUS A7V333 Delux mobo, 512MB Corsair PC2700 memory, 2 80GB WD800JB in RAID 0, a Matrox G550 vidio card for dual monitor support, and Mark of the Unicorn 828 and MicroExpress for audio and MIDI in/out. As long as it's rated 2GHz/2000+ or better, it should work fine. I think the software reccomends around a 1.2GHz processor. The most important thing is RAM. Even I'm planning on jumping the 1Gb mark soon, but I'd reccomend at least 512Mb.

Ditto. Doesnt really matter what cpu you get, but for serious you will want oodles of ram and preferably some sort of raid0 or 0+1 or 5 array to speed up data transfer.
