Out of the blue I have a Windows Security Alert shield icon showing up on my desktop telling me I dont have Microsoft's auto update active, firewall etc. I'm not sure why this started popping up but I'd like to get rid of it. Currently I do not have any of Microsoft's spyware detector, firewall enabled or auto update.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Start - Control Panel - Security Center

This will list all three services. On the left hand side there is a link for "Change how security notifies me" ..

Or you could enable automatic updates, disable the alert for antivirus and co.

I set my automatic updates to download and prompt me to install, so I can pick what I want to install and not, but have it just incase.

I know that spybot will nuke WSC reg entries and could bring that alerter back.
