I wouldn't laugh at your name, since you've got arabic roots, Adel is a very normal name anywhere. We would pronounce it Aadil. (Aa is not something that can be explained how to be pronounced sadly, but if you know arabic letters, it's the Ein letter, that looks like a number 3)

Mine's Alcide it's an old french name (it's my father's first name). I've had to spell it countless times when filling out applications. I decided to give it to my son as a middle name because it's unique.
