Even after I use all of the standard "add/remove" and "disk-cleanup" tools
to remove everything recognizable to me (applications/files), there still
seems to be a whole host of applications/files (beyonnd "hidden system files)
that one, I do not know what they are and two, the properties info says has
been used in months . I am afraid to remove anything I do not know what it
is! Can you identify unneccesary applications/files and safely remove them
beyond the regular tool? Or, just live with it?

I would not touch these files. If you want to find out what a certain
file or folder is for, create a new folder TEST at the same location
and move the file/folder into this folder. Applications that need the
data will now complain that it can no longer be found.
