Hello all,

Is it possible for me to text message from my vz phone to a number in
Poland? I did today sent a message to: +48888xxxxxx

it says sent and deleivered.. Do you think it worked? Does it cost
anything extra to do this?
I'm asking here first because I probably will not hear back from the
recipient for at least a week.

No it does not work... it did not work this summer when I was in
poland.

Use one of the online gateways from the major carriers (you need to
know which service the person you are SMS'ing has)

www.era.pl
www.idea.pl
www.plusgsm.pl

** there are various separately branded prepaid services as well that
run on one of the 3 major networks listed above... ie. (Heyah -> Era,
Pop -> idea, taktak -> Plusgsm, etc.) While I think it should still
work, i'm not 100% sure if you can send messages to those subscribers
from the main network sms gateways **

PS. I heard that nextel and perhaps tmobile are able to send text
internationally... Makes sense, since tmobile seems to be the
preferred roaming partner here. (cingular and attws were also listed
in my "idea" sim card)

Verizon can send text internationally too. See www.vtext.com
Poland isn't on their international list, but.

But you know what, when my daughter was in Japan, we used to text each
other all the time. Her phone had it's own email address:
kimiko.blah.blah@docomo.ne.jp, and mine's was blahblah@vtext.com
(vtext.com lets you create an alias instead of using your phone number)
She's back in the US now, and she still texts her friends over there the
same way, and the charges are no different from a domestic text message.

Do Poland phones have a XXXXXXXXXX@vtext.com type of address? If so,
try just texting them it like a regular email address. It worked for
me.
