Hi, I'm buying a new computer for gaming and was wondering if some tech-'knowledgable' people could tell me if this would suffice for most new games.

Skyrim? SWTOR? Thanks for any feedback. =)

Just want to make sure there aren't any glaring issues before I spend my monies. This is sitting in my ncix.com cart.

You might want to look for the 'k' version of that CPU for $20-30 more, since that would give a lot of overclocking headroom. If you're not an overclocker, then really, that CM Hyper 212 Plus won't be necessary. You can stick to the stock intel heatsink.

Thanks for your help all.

I won't be doing any over-clocking, I'd be worried about damaging the CPU.

The way I'm building through NCIX I basically choose an i5 gaming system & then it gives me the chance to customize and select 'upgrades'.

So for the motherboard the default board is:

MSI Z68MA-G45 (B3) Z68 mATX LGA1155 DDR3 2PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 HDMI DVI VGA USB3 SLI SATA3 Motherboard

And for about $15 more I get the one I chose for the build. Which I upgraded based on the extra PCI-E1 slot, and whatever G3 means. :D

Selected board:

MSI Z68A-G45 (G3) Z68 ATX LGA1155 DDR3 2PCI-E16 3PCI-E1 HDMI DVI VGA SLI USB3 SATA3 Motherboard

Likewise the CM Hyper 212 Plus was something like $10 over the stock cooler. I figured for ten dollars, it didn't hurt.

Does anyone know if there is a downside outside of the $25 dollars to this?

1. Does not using the motherboard to it's full potential cause problems?

2. Or does the CM Hyper 212 Plus sound like a plane taking off compared to most stock coolers?

Same with these two cards:

1 x Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Xtreme Audio 24BIT Sound Card 7.1 PCI OEM
1 x Intel PRO/1000 CT Desktop Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter PCI Express NIC OEM

3. Everywhere I read had some people saying they performed better than their on-board counterparts. And some people saying 'meh', don't worry about it. They are cheap, are they worth it at all?

Not using a motherboard to its fullest potential won't cause any problems. Chances are it might even leave room for you in the future to upgrade certain components. I've read overall positive reviews on the CM 212 cooler. For the price point it seems like a a steal too considering they go for between $20-$30 brand new. So for an extra $10, I'd take it too. I couldn't comment on the sound level as I haven't heard one myself.
