Restoring Windows ME on Compaq Presario 1200 Laptop

I have tried to boot into Windows Me on my 1200 presario laptop without
luck. I keep getting the message that the registry can't be found. I
tried the recovery CD which came with the laptop, but it don't work as
expected. My IBM desktop came with a similar cd, and it works as
expected to erase the hard drive and reload the software which came with
the computer.

For some reason, the Compaq don't do this and I am left in dos and the
computer doing nothing else. Can anyone tell me how to get this software
to erase the hard drive or to fix the registry so I can boot into
Windows? Thanks in advance for any help.

If the D:System_sav partition has been corrupted or reformatted, the
recovery CD won't restore the laptop.
Call 1-800-841-2761 and order the full QuickRestore CD kit for your 1200.
It's only $10.
