My fallout 3 keeps crashing every five minutes

Every 5 or so minutes my fallout 3 just randomly freezes. Please help. I've tried literally everything.

also what are your PC specs and have you had problems before? is this the first game that's presenting with this issue or other games too?

Have you installed the Fallout 3 patch? There is also a patch for the game platform available from Windows. After that, it still would lock-up my machine frequently, especially on boards I had not traversed. It seemed I could get one save and it would lock-up and die shortly thereafter. Once I traversed the board, it seemed to lessen the problem. Not much help, but the only other solutions were third-party patches/game upgrades which I am uncomfortable installing.
