greetings all.

My specs are:

i5 2500K @ 4.2
ATi 6950 2GB 900MHz
12GB corsair vengeance DDR3 1600MHz
H60 Water cooling
500GB WD 7200 Serial ATA3
MSi Motherboard

On FSX (Microsoft Flight Simulator X) with full settings i am usually getting about 9- 30 fps, does that seem right?

and also would it be worth it upgrading to the new i7 2700k (stock clock 3.5GHz!) , as FSX is very CPU dependent

Please reply, thanks :)

Hi. You have a very capable computer on your hands, upgrading to anything before next gen GPUs and Ivy Bridge come out would be wasteful, imo, since performance gains would be marginal.

afaik, MSX has always been fps limited by design

but the i7 2700k is the newest sandybridge, and is a faster, more capable cpu than the i5 2500k, but i want to no if ther will be a big performance increase????

then how can i get a performance increase?

maybe throw in an SSD for faster load times, but you won't get better frame rates.

you could try overclocking your GPU, or try flashing it to a 6970

I was planning on doing both but if i buy the i7 2700k ad OC to 4.8GHz, my current clock spee is 4.2, then would i get any frame increase, i should get a couple atleast

dear god all these people saying upgrade and buy this are you insane ?

if that pc cant run FSX on max then you should throw it out the window. i have an AMD 955 phenom II running stock 8gb 1600mhz ddr3 ram, 2x 5770 cards and 1 300gb WD green drive that runs that game on max granted fps is between 25/65 but it plays no problems.

my new sandy Bridge E 3930K on a Asus R4E with 32gb of ddr2133 ram and 3x 6970's that plays it on eyefinity at max runing 150/250 fps.

so some where along the line you either got a driver issue or a hardware problem cos there aint no way that pc cant run that game on max at average fps of 50+

your first set-up, is mines better?, if so then im doomed :( , thanks for your help, sorry for asking so much if i will get a framerate increase

, and also what would be a stable OC for my 6950, im using the saphire TRIXX OCing util, Im fine with 900MHz, but what should i put the memory, now its at 5200, and also what should i do with the voltage, (1100). thanks

I'm trying to explain to him that getting an 2700k over 2500k will not give him magical performance increase. it's not sticking thus far

i understand that now!, but what would be a stable oc for my 6950, it's at 900MHz, and memory at 5200MHz, and voltage 1100. what would be a stable OC, im using SAPHIRRE TRIXX OVERCLOCKING UTILITY TOOL. Or would i just be aswell Attempting to flash it to a 6970. And also I dont actually have 12GB yet, I only have 4 but I'm expecting my other 8 (2x4) through the door any day now. I will also be purchasing an SSD soon. And one more thing. I cant OC over 4.5GHz on my CPU, it sort of malfunctions. error screens nd stuff like that. I have corsair H60 water cooling. soz for all questions and details but I require as much help as possible, I'm only 14 but am very enthusiastic about computing. I know a fair bit, but sometimes, I need some re-assuring and help :)

try actually running the game with out over clocking that card, some games don not like overclocked cards while playing.

upgrading a system to suite a game is good but if the game is old and your system is new and it cant run it then there is something wrong some place before even starting with buying stuff you should be trying drivers out and also searching the net for in game fixes for FSX i would be if i was you

I've tweaked the cfg, and i have some addons: REX 2.0, iRIS c27J spartan. In some areas for example Madiera airport (LMPA) with full settings, I get anything form 30 fps-150fps, but in new york (KJFK) i get anything from 9-30fps. I know it's because it's a much more dense area but even if i turn some settings down to 3/4 of the way i still only get anythin from 12-40fps, but mostly about 19fps, i know it''s still very playable but it's still quite a low framerate, im gonna end up just buying a new FSX, and put it on my SSD wen i get it, does that sound better, and also is FSX crossfire compatible
