Floppy drive stops computer working

Forum CPU & Components : Power Supplies, Cases & Mods Floppy drive stops computer working

I recently bought a housemate a new Enermax 365W psu. It runs quietly and stable, however will not boot when it is pluagged into the FDD connector. There are 4 molex wires, 2 with 2x HDD connectors and 2 with 2x HDD and 1x FDD. Neither work.

Given that it's only the floppy drive it's not a major problem as it hardly ever gets used, but what could a solution be?

Cheers, Peter

Connect the floppy data cable correctly. If it's keyed, the key faces down. If there's no key slot in the drive, look for a break out section there. If there's no key, put it with the red stripe on the left side of the drive as you face the rear of the drive (IDE drives have the red stripe on the right as you face the rear).

I connect the IDE and the power, and procede to power up the machine...<SNIFF, SNIFF> What's that smell?? Holy cow, there's smoke!! And before I know it, I've burned the power cable going into the floppy! Well, after an autopsy of the cable, I noticed that I plugged it in with the left connector not connected to anything. So connecting 3 of the 4 connectors will short out the connection...
i cut out the burned section and insulate it with insulator tape.
The PSU is working fine. But I am not sure if I should continue using it...so you be carefull too.

If you mean CPU by computer, that means your processor is overheating!
