Best method for getting files from friend's laptop

I have a friend with loads of MP3's that I want to leech. However, it would be really time consuming to burn all the music to CDs considering he has over five gigs of music. He has a laptop and I have a desktop and he can easily bring his laptop to my PC.

So what do you guys think? How can I get the files from him? I heard something about connecting each PC by way of ethernet, but I'm not sure how that works.

Thanks!

do the laptop and desktop both have ethernet cards (AKA NIC's)?

They look like modem ports but are wider (RJ45)

Yes they both have network cards, and I know what a stupid RJ45 port looks like! I'm not an idiot... I just have never done any direct connections before.
