hang on resume from hibernate

My Athlon 64 will not resume from the hibernated state. It hangs at the
resume screen and won't get past the Resuming Windows... For troubleshooting
and advanced startup options for Windows, pressF8. At that point there is no
response from any keystroke combinations, F8, F5 or Ctrl+Alt+Del. I have my
2- 80gb hard drives striped in a RAID 0 array with igbof dual channel DDR3200
running XP Pro.

If I cycle the power off/on and hit delete to get int bios the standard CMOS
Features menu shows both the Primary IDEMaster and Slave uninstalled. The
first time this happened i thought it was because i built the machine with a
card reader and upon installing windows the hard drive was pushed out to the
I: So I thought it was looking to the missing C: drive for the resume file.

After disconnecting the card reader and doing a complete windows reinstall
(wiping everything out) I was back in business with the hard drive at the
C:after hours of software installs and upgrades.

Then i activated the hibernate feature and lo & behold upon hibernating the
computer it once again will not resume. I can't get into safe mode and it
looks like the resume process can not finf =d the hard disc.

Please help me save the work and time of a complete reinstall of all
software, applications, upgrades, network, printers,ISP Etc... and resolve
this conflict so I can use the hibernate feature seamlessly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check in your MOBO manual and look in your BIOS setup utility. Look
specifically for ACPI suspend or hibernate options. Is it set to STR
(Suspend To RAM?) If not then try that. If it is then try the other one
perhaps?

Thanks for the tip but to no avail,There appears to be a conflict between
the bios power management and xp Pro power management. But i discovered that
the STR setting in the bios is similar in function to the windows hibernate
feature but is quicker to implement.
It shuts down the monitor, hard drives and fans but resumes right where it
left off
and is activated by the start menu shutdown- standby selection with the
windows hibernate feature disabled.
By the way the fix for the hang was achieved by using the windows recovery
panel on the CD , After reinstalling the pata drivers you get to the c:\
(root directory) and delete the hiberfil.sys file and then windows will boot.!
Thanks for the tip but i Couldn't figure out which combination of
enabling/disabling ACPI or ACPIE in windows and enabling/disabling STR in the
bios would allow the typical hibernation mode offered via windows. But the
soluyion I came up with is the best of both worlds!

Excellent and thank you for letting us know what did eventually work out for
you. I've made a note of it and will look for this in the future. Much
