Is there a grace period after purchasing a verizon account where you can cancel without incurring the "early termination fee"? activation fee? first month of service charge?

From the web site:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/globalText?textName=RETURN_POLICY&jspName=footer/returnPolicy.jsp

Satisfaction Guarantee
You may terminate service for any reason within 15 days of activation
without incurring an early termination fee. You will be responsible for all
applicable fees, prorated access charges, taxes or other charges that
accrued to your account through the termination date and equipment return
date.

Returns
You may return any or all of your wireless equipment for any reason within
15 days of purchase. If you return and we accept your equipment within this
period, we will refund your equipment purchase price. All cash, credit card
or check transactions returned within 15 days and accompanied with a receipt
will be refunded by check, credit card or gift card in the amount of the
credit.

You must return the original box intact with all components (phone, charger,
battery, instructions, etc.). All components must be in like-new condition.
All returns must be accompanied by the original customer receipt and will
only be granted to the purchaser whose name appears on the receipt.
Equipment is not eligible to be returned if the UPC code for the box is
missing and the rebate form has been submitted. At our discretion, we may
decline your return or charge you a fee for missing items or items that we
determine are damaged or require service.

The original poster looks like he's in California. If so, the grace period
for him is 30 days (by law).

Which law is this?

The California Public Utilities Commission approved the Telecommunications
Bill Of Rights in May of 2004. Read about it here:

http://www.cpuc.ca.gov/PUBLISHED/NEWS_RELEASE/36910.htm

Specifically, under the section Service Initiation and Changes: "...carriers
must: Allow consumers to cancel without termination fees or penalties any
new tariffed service or any new contract for service within 30 days after
the new service is initiated."

I took advantage of this law recently, returning a Sprint phone and
cancelling the associated service contract 18 days after initiating it.

I believe it is just 15 days.
