I am trying to get the PSU running (to test out some lights and fans lol) i don't have the MB yet and the PSU won't start up or power anything. somebody told me that the new PSU's won't run without being attached to the MB, or some sort of cable trick?! any help would be much appreciated btw PSU is an ATX LC-B500E 500watt thanks in advance -tom's hardware's newbie

YOu have to connect a PSU to a motherboard in order to turn it on yes. However if you bend a paperclip and connect pins 13 and 14 on the large motherboard connector, the PSU will turn on. (The second u take the paperclip out it will turn off).
