Can't return to Welcome Screen after a user logs off

I have two computers running WinXP Pro SP2, both with SpySweeper running.
Each machine has 3-4 user accounts. When one of the users is logged on for a
while (doesn't matter which user), the computer will hang if they try to log
off. It will close the icons n their desktop, and stop. The mouse will
still move, the background is there, but even CTRL-ALT-DEL does nothing. If
the user does not log off, I can switch between accounts.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
