I'm not sure where to post this, but I'm sure this'll do.
I'm planning of installing a server at home, both for file-sharing purposes, as well as distributation of internet access to computers "lower" in the network hierarchy.
The way I'd planned to connect thing would be like this:
The connector from the DSL Modem would go into NIC 1 of the server (basically a normal computer running 24/7). From NIC 2 of the server there would run a connector to port 1 of a switch. From ports 2 & 3 of the switch there would go connectors to two separate "workstations".
Would this work at all? Would I be able to get simultaneous internet-connection on all stations? If I were to install a software firewall on the server, would this protect/affect the workstations?
The Questions are many. I hope the Answers are too.
