Hi, i wanted to add another power supply to my computer to connectect six hard drives and 2 cd roms. But power supply is swithed on by the motherboard. Is there any other kind of powersupply that has its own on/off switch.
Old AT power supplies did, but some didn't work without a motherboard connected. How about simply turning on both power supplies with the motherboard? You can do that with ATX power supplies.

where do i connect the 20 or 24 pin plug that goes into the motherboard usually, that is where the problem lies, i already have 2 power supplies of 300w each. how do i switch on the second one, that is not connected to the motherboard??
You wouldn't have to connect the whole thing to the motherboard for the second supply, you'd only need to connect the green wires to each other. You can get inline tap-type splicers from radio shack, they clip over two wires and have a blade inside that cuts through the insulation and connects the wires.
