Hi group,

In the past year I have lost the following pieces of hardware to power surges during electrical storms:

Video card
Power supply
Hard Drive

Enough is enough. After losing the video card, I upgraded the crappy $15 dollar surge protector I had to a seemingly sturdier ~$60 version. About a week ago there was another storm and my hard drive died.

Anybody recommend a decent UPS? I am not concerned so much with the ability to save data during a power failure (This is my home computer and I don't do any data critical work); I am extremely concerned with the units ability to protect against power surges and spikes. Note also that this is only for one PC; I don't need anything with a huge capacity.

Suggestions?

APC is my UPS's of choice, though I've run a variety of others for home use(have a pair of IBMs now, they were free, and very likely built by APC for IBM anwyays). Go to www.apc.com and use their product selector to find right size for you. It's very well setup and useful.
