Hi, desperate computer builder virgin here! i got an aries 350w atx case (savacentre uk). does anyone out there know of any special trick to connect the power switch? i have a asusk8v se mboard and i really think i have connected all the bits ok...when i put power to the psu i get a green light on the mother board but on pressing the on/off button on the case...nothing!!! the case came with no instructions but what i identify as the wires from the power switch are two white and white/green pluging into a connector which turns into a normal four pin power plug..(this is how it came in the case) I have just tried pluging the four pin power to a power plug coming from the psu..any ideas???

Ok I am a little confused on exactly what you tried, but I will try and help.

First off from the PSU to the motherboard you should have the 20-pin connector, near your RAM slots. Second you should have a square 4 pin connector going from your PSU to motherboard, near your CPU/PS2 ports.

Next your switch wires, this is what they are generally:
Power SW: Blue/White
Reset SW: Yellow/White
HD LED: Red/White
Power LED: Green/White

These should be plugged into the little pins at the bottom of your motherboard, however if you plug them in wrong they will not work, obvisuly. On most motherboards these pins are labeled right below them. With the PSU unit plugged into the motherboard, you can try touching the two pins for the Power Switch with a screw driver, if you have the correct pins the computer will turn on.
