Could I put a small 2 AA battery powered fan inside my case? It is a cheap one, I'm sure not shielded, but it is tiny like those on a spray/fan people use in the summer.
(There IS a good reason why I want to...)

Well, my wife bought me 2 fans from QVC. (They are sold out, but will get more). The fans are the soft blade ones like the water spray fan ones. Each fan has a set of 5 or six tiny leds built in a tiny strip on one blade. As the blade turns, the lights give 64 different light effects. Pretty neat. I thought it would look neat in my case (you cannot see the fan blades as it turns, just an amazing light show.
See? A good reason (if a bit tacky.)

Well thats fair enough. I cant think of any reason it would cause problems, y do you think it will?

I was just afraid the motor (being cheap and not shielded) would make a magnetic field and play havoc. (I also am wondering whether the electronics in the fan head (light controls) will disrupt anything. That worries me less because I was afraid the motor's field might ruin something expensive. I always read a magnet would erase any disc, chip, or whatever.

Hmmmm...well I have a 420watt power supply that has clear windows (and therefore is not very well shielded) in one computer. I also have a 100watt unsheilded subwoofer near my computer. I doubt a .5watt fan will really cause a huge problem, magnetic fields only really cause problems with hard disks and with magnets this small I doubt it will be a problem.

I dont think any computer fans are specially sheilded, but I could be wrong.

You were right as rain. I pulled off the case side and stuck it inside... No exploding parts, no waivering monitor, nor anything worse than a tiny bit of flying dust.
