Hi, I've been looking for a tutorial or something that would describe the
basic process for gettting my recently purchased Samsung A670 Verizon phone
to work as modem for internet access from my laptop. I assume I need a
cable, some USB drivers, some config info, and be signed up to the
appropriate plan (which I hope I already have).

I think Verizon says to purchase a "Mobile Web Kit", but my experience with
these on another carrier was that it included a lot of things I don't need
or want, although I'm happy to purchase it if required. Any help
appreciated,

- Mark

you need a cable to connect the phone to the laptop and then you just need
to configure a modem on the laptop to use the cable. You can probably get
both the cable and modem drivers at the phone's web site (I did for
Kyocera) - or get the drivers and go to eBay or elsewhere for a less
expensive cable.

It's called a "Mobile Office Kit", is specific for each model of phone,
comes with the cable and software you need, and costs about $39.95. Installs
in less than 10 minutes, and works fine... Check your bill (online or on
paper, the "Your Service Profile" "Enchanced Services" ) look for and see if
you have the FREE *option* ("Natl Enchanced Svc Access" ) that lets you use
it for the costs of minutes.

If you want to save a few bucks (about $10-15), there are tons of people on
here that will tell you the right and wrong way to do it, and you'll
probably get it working in a few weeks, and may even have a few hairs left
on your head.

My suggestion... buy the kit, (if they don't have it locally, you can order
it online and it comes right to your door), and deal with the fact that you
will get a cardboard box/plastic bags/and wire ties, that you don't need or
want.

Thanks for help guys. Yes, I've got the "Natl ... Access" on the Enhanced
Services section of my bill, so it sounds like I just need to get the kit
and I'll be in business.

would ever have hoped.

There's a brief tutorial on how to do it with the A670 here:

I can't imagine it's much different for other makes/models, assuming you've
got the proper drivers.
