Hello,i just purchased SWTOR and its just running horribly. i have slightly better than system requirements so can someone please tell me if maybe need more ram, better internet connection, better graphics card...my system is...
Acer aspire x1200
windows vista 64-bit
AMD anthlon dual core 4050e 2.10GH
4.00Gb of Ram
nvidia geforce 9200

an nvidia 9200 is not better than an nvidia 7800, the first number is the generation, the others are for comparison within a generation. Typically with each generation the equivelent card slips down a bit so a 7800 = 8800 roughly but the 8800 is better, but an 8600 is worse. A 9200 is very very weak compared to a 7800.
this might help you understand how are far out you are: and how much better any particular choice might be.

if i upgrade my videocard would it improve it? say if i got a geforce 460gtx installed ? i also have a geforce 6600 and according to the chart it would be an upgrade from mine, what about that?

yes it would, and quite badly... even with a sizable oc... the 6600 would at least get you playing games at absolute minimum and unlikely to get playable on say bf3 it may just be able to run swtor but your fps is libel to take a hammering in even slightly built up scenes. 1 of the best games i played on a 6600le was fear (the first 1) it wasnt pretty but it did work) if you want to play other gems then anything pre cod4 would be playable. so you still have options. but the reality is your machine doesn't meet minimum spec for most new games and really does need replacing rather than upgrading.
