could someone please help me to understand what power supply I will need. Im building a new pc (well my first lol) hopefully it will go as follows,

Processor: P4 3.0 - 3.2 (Hyper Threading)
Motherboard: MSI 865PE Neo-LS
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Ram: 512Mb Dual DDR400

And a few cooling fans

Also is it worth building this since I read about the AMD 64 bit and I dont want to build a pc thats no going to last.

Cheers in advance, Baz

For that system I'd go with a powersupply that is over 400Watts. I'd go with the Antec 480watt.
That setup will be pretty good for a nice long time. If you really want a machine that will support more future hardware hold out for the athlon 64 systems that have pci express. They will likely be much cheaper and better than the current pentium systems with pcie.

FSP400 puts out almost as much power as the TP480, but you can get an FSP530 for a few dollars more than the 400, and still cheaper than the TP480.

How long are you willing to wait, Windows XP 64 bit is coming out Q1 2005. So if you wanted an Athlon, I'd hold out for Windows XP 64.

I would recommend the Tagan 480W PSU, it's whisper quiet and solid as a rock. The Antec NeoPower 480W is pretty good too, maybe even better than the Tagan.
