I read the last couple months of posts to find out how to upgrade my Dell Dimension 8250 power supply. You guys answered my questions before I asked.

According to Dell, the PS and MB are proprietary and cannot be upgraded. They said that a higher PS than the 250w would not be compatible with my MB. They even went on to say that the 250w PS was sufficient to run the GeForce 6800GT AGP8x. Uh hu.

Well, using Crashman's multiple posts and etp777's recommendation to go to PC Power & Cooling....PSU solved!! They make a PSU for my exact computer case and mother board. Its called the Turbo-Cool 425 Dell Deluxe Power Supply for ATX. It even has 2 SATA connectors for future upgrades of optical drives. It also has 4 pairs of drive connectors, plenty for my two EIDE hard drives, two optical drives, one floppy drive, and yes one for my future new GeForce 6800GT.

Price is $149.00 with 30-day money back garantee. Great service over the phone so far. Talked to the techie, and he walked me through the web site specs and answered all my questions.

Way cool.

Thanks

Happy I was able to help(and sure Crash feels same). Rather surprised to come in here and see this though, as haven't really been posting much lately, particularly in this section. SO was surprised(and at first worried ;) ) to see my name mentioned.

Yeah, I know $149.00 is a lot for a PSU. But, a good PSU will run about $60 anyway, and it is worth it to me to keep the Dell intact for another 3 years. The folks at PC Power & Cooling did the modifications for me. Call it paid labor. Unless someone here can direct me to a PSU that exactly fits into my proprietary Dell 8250 case and MB, I'll have to go with the high price.
