New Antec NeoPower has no Power. This psu is for a new rig I'm putting together. I tried testing it (plugging into wall and turning on power switch)Nothing happend, fan didnt even come on. checked 12v lead with multimeter, no power. Plugged into an old mobo (mobo may be bad). still nothing. I'm I doing something wrong or do I just need to return.

AFAIK, switching power supplies need to have a load to work. That means they have to have something plugged into them (preferrably a working motherboard) before they'll work. It is possible (though I would think Antec knows how to avoid this as they are a good company) that powering up a psu without any load could cause it to blow.

That said, you could have a bad one, it does happen on occasion. Plug in a known working motherboard and test.

Mike.

A bad board may not power up the PSU. A PSU won't power up by itself. If you want to power up a PSU without the board, you can jump the green wire to any black wire on the ATX power connector after turning on the switch on the back.

I'm just kinda curious by some odd chance do you have the little switch in the back set to 115 or 220v? I've known some people to not be able to power up under the 220v setting.

Thanks all, yea looks like that mobo is bad. Was looking at the Asus k8t800pro (939) a8v to replace. but understand there is an issue with Antec power and A8V boards. something to do with the 12v rail amps. My book on the neo480 says +12v1=18A +12v2=15A. I'm not sure if I know what im talking about here, my electrical knowlege is limited to AC mostly. Ive read that the av8 needs at least 24A, my book shows 32A 12v combined current. Am I ok for the av8? how do I combine the two 12v rails?

Crashman, I know I know...I should go with an NF4, so give me your best op on an NF4 board comparible to the Asus av8. As far as I can tell Asus doesnt make a nf4.
Edited by airspace31 on 12/10/04 02:54 PM.
