My laptop vs my new build...

ok i got the Asus G73jh. laptop its a BEAST! i play my games on my 1080p TV. i can max all settings on BF3 with high FPS. but i have to have the post prossesing off. and all the little extra stuff off as well.
the old republic maxed out no issues.
Bad Company 2 how ever i have some issues with it on max.

im looking into buying a new desktop. my specs will be...

AMD FX-4100 CPU (4x 3.60GHz/4MB L2 Cache)
Liquid CPU Cooling System
8 GB [2 GB X4] DDR3-1600 Memory Module
( AMD Radeon HD 6950 - 2GB - HIS IceQ X Turbo - Core: 840MHz
and a 1TB HD.

i am gonna overclock the FX 4100 to about 4.5 Ghz btw.
aside from the ram and video card, is the 4100 much faster than the i7 at 1.7Ghz which i have right now?

any ideas or coments or disses willl be welcome.

thanks all

    Oh yeah. That FX-4100 looks like a mean CPU for that price point ($99-109). And thats a sweet GPU pick. Sits up in the rankings with the best of them.

    FX 4100 --> http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+FX-4100+Quad-Core
    i7 720QM --> http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7+720QM+%40+1.60GHz
  2. ok thanks, im gonna go with the 4100 and overclock it. :pt1cable:
  3. to be honest wait till ivy bridge comes out. intel cpu's are better than amd at the moment for games

    and when ivy bridge comes out soon then the prices will drop or you may want to get an ivy bridge cpu (plus you can swap a sandy bridge cpu for a ivy bridge in certain motherboards)

    That's a general statement. What intel cpu at $99-$109 is comparable in performance? I'm honestly curious if there's one I didn't notice.
  5. my budget is gonna be 1200-1300 MAX. even if i overclock the cpu its the best i can get for the $$$.
  6. As much as it hurts me to say it, since I always loved and bought AMD ...

    Even an i3-2100 can beat most AMD CPU's out there when it comes to gaming. And it's available for ~125$

    And that's the slowest i3 available @3.1 GHz, there's also a i3-2130 @3.4 GHz for ~150$

    Here's an i3 2100 vs the FX 8150, scroll down to the game benchmarks, they are extremely close, with the i3 even ahead in some. And that's vs a 270$ CPU.

    And some chart to consider

    It is a proven fact that at $1200, the intel cpu's are better for gaming. The i5-2500k will more than be sufficient.
  8. hmm, i will look into it, also im going through ibuypower.com. i was gonna do bare bones but im too lazy. il check out the i3, its just that i have a i7 right now. will the higher clock speed make that much of a diff?
  9. also isn't it bad karma to run AMD and Intel in the same system?
  10. sorry one more thing. what is the difference between i5 2500 and i5 2500k?
  11. The 2500k has an unlocked multiplier for overclocking.

    It doesn't matter how you pair your parts as long as they match.

    And there's an edit function. :P
  12. ahh i see it now. so i was looking at the i5-2500k, 8gb ram, 6950 radion HD and liquid cooled. with 20% overclocking. i can get that for ~$1200
