I'm falling victim to an interesting phenomenon here... people are
marking posts EQ2, and I have "EQ2" in my kill filter. It does a fine
job of taking out their post.
However, apparently because of the colon, every subsequent post made
to them drops the "EQ2" part from the subject line, and goes ahead and
posts.
So, I have dozens of replies to a post that never appears. Anyone out
there using Agent know how to kill all the replies, too? And please,
no "ignore thread" suggestions, it doesn't work.

I dropped agent some time ago in favor of XNews, so can't help you there,
other than to make the suggestion to switch. :b

been using it too long, it's less hassle to simply start kf'ing the
individuals, because they're responding, so obviously are primarily
going to be responding the the EQ2 files for the most part. I just
hate having a really gigantic killfile.
I'm pretty sure someone else around here has a fix.

You need to find out what the wild-cards are in your filtering language and
filter off of those.

Failing that, and this may be a stupid idea (I use XNews, not Agent) but
have you tried filtering out "EQ2:" or "Re: EQ2:"??

Doesn't help (see below).

The problem is that for some bizarre reason Outhouse strips out the
'EQ2:' part completely. So 'EQ2: subject' becomes 'Re: subject' and
the filter misses it. If the posters would put it back it wouldn't be
a problem, but they don't. (Well, they're Outhouse users...)

My current solution is to killfile people whenever the do it. Unless
somebody can offer something better, that's all I can suggest.

Sadly, because of some people being unable to access the EQ2-specific
group, and some people who seem not to want to use it, I too am
getting a very large killfile name of posters. Pity, in some cases.

Hmmmm. This might be a question better asked in news.software.readers.

This is what I figure I'm looking at too. What a painful solution.

I'm thinking it has to do with the colon after EQ2. If that were left
off, the whole thing should appear as the subject

I expect that is MSs way of not getting re:re:re: in posts, they just
assume anything before the ':' should be stripped.

From my experience, that's because different localizations have
different "Re:" prefixes. The simplest (not best) solution is to assume
that if there are letters followed by a : before a subject, that they're
a localized "Re:".

Yes, the problem is that other countries use abbreviations other
than "Re". But the real problem is that Microsloth used an even
simpler (and further from best) solution, because they're willing
to strip out stuff other than letters from before the colon.
(Last I checked, "2" wasn't a letter. :)
