hello,

I tried installing win xp (home edition with slipstreamed Service Pack 2)on my reserve pc.

I let it run by itself, and when I came back to it, the screen was stuck with this:

then later the screen just went black.

*my slipstreamed cd never had the same problem with my main pc.

actually, I recently installed a 2nd hdd on it.

my main hd has 2 partitions, C and D.

The weird thing that happened before was instead of the new hdd taking the letter E, it became drive D and the 2nd partition in the main hdd became E.

Is drive letter swapping a sign of a faulty hdd?

It does sound like the master HDD could be defective. What is the HDD brand? Go to their website to download a drive diagnostics utility, then run it.
