I would like to think Im a veteran of gaming. I played to many games to think of but Im building a PC for gaming and was wondering if anyone can give me any suggestions on games they like that I should try aside from Skyrim or Battlefield. I dont care on what Im considering giving all the old half lifes a go again.
Any suggestions appreciated. Really want to utilize my PC and I have no idea what to play.
No worries, theres no need to apologise, it just makes things easier thats all.

do you want to play brand new games or old classics?
personally i feel the following are ones worth checking out. some oldies but goldies..
starcraft 1
warcraft III
aliens vs predators 2
unreal tournament 2003 or 2004
guild wars (free to play mmo)
supreme commander
total annihilation
warzone 2100
mechwarrior 3 (my favorite) or 4
doom 3
as far as new games out on the market... personally there have been zero i found worth the money. i've heard skyrim appeals to some people but i prefer my rpgs to be of a different flavor. personally i felt starcraft 2 was a huge letdown over the original.
there is more coming out on the consoles that appears worthwhile than on the pc platform. most notably armored core V and soul calibur V.

Hello,
I'd recommend you try witcher 1 and 2 (make sure to try 2nd one if you don't like the first one much)
Dota 2 should be coming along within the next 6 months or so (it's in beta right now) (same as league but more professional feel to it as it's got harder mechanics)
Mass Effect series - great graphics, great story line, pretty decent gameplay
Dragon Age: Origins - very good "remake" of classic style squad RPG battling in typical Bioware style (deep companion conversations and such) great graphics and plot
Portal 1 & 2 - based on source engine, 1 was very good plot and puzzle game from what I hear. 2nd one recently released has added multiplayer which is loads of fun.
If you like free exploration fps games like farcry and crysis, give Stalker series a go (Stalker: shadow of chernobyl, clear skies, call of pripyat)
Metro2033 is a scary post apocalyptic shooter with tremendous graphics as well.
Civ 4 or 5 have nice gameplay, alternatives if you don't like turn base include Dawn of Discovery and Anno 2070.
Racing games Dirt 3 and GRID have had their amount of praise. I'm not recommending any NFS titles since I've lost all respect for them.
For multiplayer give Team Fortress 2 a try if you haven't yet (it's f2p on steam). Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 were said to be lots of coop fun, but I don't know how alive the server population is by now.
SW:TOR recently launched, and if you're a star wars fan, I think you will like it. Otherwise other highly anticipated titles are Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2.
Well, that's about all I can think of and just about covers every genre out there.
Cheers!

@gothems finest is metro 2033 like resistance:fall of man at all. Im reading a little about it and sounds a lot like it. What about it do you like because the plot seems pretty awesome.
oh and my specs are:
CPU Intel Core i5-2500K
MOBO ASUS P8P67 PRO (REV 3.1)
RAM G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 F3-12800CL9D-8GBXM
GPU EVGA 01G-P3-1561-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Im not sure really to be honest. Im interested in playing all the half lifes including the first one which is pretty old but I believe I can get them all on steam no problem. i was just confused with the games that said that they were only for XP/Vista but im assumign that when those games came out windows 7 wasnt out yet.

Yes thats correct.
Steam is the best way to be sure.
All games on Steam will be compatible with Win 7. Inc the original half lifes and original far cry.
