Paula, go to Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices>Look under each
Heading ( Sound, Volume, Hardware etc) and
if you see greyed out or yellow marks next to audio devices in
Hardware or anything else that looks not right. Post back
here with what you found and the name of your Audio Device. You could
find that in Start>All Programs>Accessories>
System Tools>System Information>Components>Sound Devices. Look at
first two lines in rt pane. It should tell you
what audio device you have. Don't use the recovery disk unless you
want to start over completely

Hi PaulaJane
I hope you have the sound problem solved by now. If not, go here and
download and install the latest Realtek driver
http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/ac97.html
