New Dell Studio XPS 8100 - came with W7 Home Premium

1st thing I did was upgraded to W7 Ultimate by entering a Product Key for W7U - PC upgraded to W7U but now it will not let me install anything also it will not let me become a Administrator of the PC.

My next step is to restore W7 Home and start over.


It does show "My Name" in the Admin Group but that is not my login to the PC

Try this before going to the trouble of reinstalling, just in case it works. Hit the Windows key and R together to bring up a Run box adn in it, type cmd and hit Enter. At the Command prompt, type net user administrator {yourloginname} and hit Enter. Depending on the response, then type net user administrator active:yes and hit Enter. Restart the machine and the Administrator logon should appear with the others on the Welcome Screen.

Hmmm - wrong respnse, I'm afraid. looks like your plan to reinstall the original system might be the only way out. You're going nowhere without admin permissions.[/#000ff]
