Need Urgent Help!! Can I retriev & recover deleted files a..

I have XP-pro.,SP2. I sometimes use disk clean up in this direction.
Start>All Programes>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Clean Up>drive C:
But yesterday when some of folders & files were selected I didnot check the
list and I pressed OK.After that in during process I saw all shortcuts of
programes in my desktop disapeared in this time I pressed Cancel but I lose
very important files.
When tried use my machine it requsted me Service Pack 2 and then Microsoft
office 2003 CDs and I installed them.But when I go to start>all programes I
see only the name of programes and piont to them they show (empty).Even some
utilities are distroyed sach as when I refer to "Start>All
programes>Accessories>System Tools " it shows empty. I try solve this
problem by running the "Restore syetem"by go to C:>windows>system 32>
Restore but I havenot restore point befor current day(yesterday).
can I retrive & recover those files that deleted by clean up C: please help
me.
