Hello,
I know this is a common question, but I hope someone may sway me one way or another on my laptop purchase. I just can't decide which way to go!

First:
Dell 6100
Pentium M 740
128MB DDR ATI's MOBILITY™ RADEON X300 PCI Express x16 Graphics
15.4 inch UltraSharp WUXGA LCD Panel(best screen available on this system)
1GB DDR2 SDRAM (400mhz I believe)
80GB Hard Drive
8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
9-cell Lithium Ion Battery
windows media center 05 w/remote (possible tv tuner add-on in future, so could be nice option?)
2yr warranty
All-in-One Printer 922
$1476 total (w/tax and shipping)($750 off promo included to get price)

Second:
Gateway 460xl
Pentium M 740
ATI Radeon X600 128MB Graphics
512 DDR2 SDRAM (533mhz in 1 dim)
80GB HD
Modular 8x Multi-Format Double Layer DVD Writer (DVD±R/±RW/CD-RW)
15.4" WXGA Ultrabright TFT Active Matrix (Best screen option)
Primary 8-cell Lithium ion battery
Windows XP pro
1yr warranty
Epson CX3810 Multifunction Printer (Free after MIR)
$1440 total(after $90 MIR on printer= $1530 before)(with 10% off system)

I see pro's and con's with each, so it is a tough call. I don't know which screen looks better (I heard gateway screen looks very nice but dell's has a higher resolution), or which video card is better ( is there a big difference), if the 533mhz memory in gateway is that much better than 400mhz in dell (dell system has 1ghz of memory, but at 400mhz), and the gateway has a removeable optical drive (Dells is fixed). I am going crazy trying to decide. Please give me some feedback. I am a student and I really am unsure what exactly I will eventually use the notebook for. I just want the best choice for my money that will allow me most future growth.
Thanks

What's the reason for the lack of multitasking on the iPad
By frozenlead, 8 days ago:

Apple likes to keep their image by controlling their products. The iPhone OS has a reputation for being smooth and fast, whereas other mobile OSs are generally slower - this is due, in part, by the fact that the other OSs can use more than one program at the same time. After running and closing different numbers of applications, over time, the machine slows down. It pretty much comes down to the programmers who designed the code and how efficient and effective their code is. Programmers who developed multi-tasking OSs have a much larger task at hand than a programmer who has the criteria of only being able to run one program at a time. In other words, if Apple tells you what you can't do, it makes it easier for them to design a product that can do fewer things seemingly (but not always in truth) better.
