i have a crazy idea to take a f-load of old PC drives, mount them to a piece of plywood, open the drive cases to show the moving parts, plug them all in and make them move (I have an artist friend who wants to paint the outer drive platters).

Does a dead drive with power move without any data instruction? that would be simpliest obviously.

I'm thinking I'll start with a small version, maybe 4 drives. How many drive power connectors are on an old ps (which I haven't located just yet).

Thanks for any help!

I think you should repost this question in the HD forum. I also think the drives won't last long spinning in the open air.
The number of molex connectors isn't fixed for a psu, though I think even really old psu's will have 4.
