I want to upgrade the PSU on my Presario SR1320NX in order to run a higher-end video card. It has a Bestec 250W PSU with 20 pin connector and a 4 pin connector. From what I've seen, the only difference between this PSU and a regular one is that it has a "blank" pin where most have -5 volt. Now, assuming there is nothing physically keeping me from connecting it, could a normal PSU possibly work without doing damage?

As long as the color code shows standard wire layout and it's not one of those weird Compaq power supplies with the front panel power button wired to it, a standard power supply should work. Then you just have to figure out if it will fit!
