I have 2 of them. One is presently in my GF's pc and running flawlessly. I replaced my X-Connect 500 with a modded (UV red sleeved and replaced the connectors with UV red ones also) PC Power & Cooling Turbo Cool 510 Deluxe.
As I was hearing many mixed experiences with the Ultra's, I didn't want to take a chance on $3000 of new hardware.
From what I understand, Ultra contracted two different companies (in China) to build them. One of these two companies built a significantly better product than the other. Or so the story goes. Apparently, the early production runs had quality issues and many dissatisfied customers. Ultra has since implemented a lifetime warranty with registration. I have not read the details of this new warranty.
My two work great. The cables (while stiff... especially the main mobo cable) are first rate and UV sensitive to boot. It seems you either love 'em or you hate 'em.

Picking a PSU isn't as easy as "should I get 420 watts or 500 watts? You need to calculate how much amperage you need on the +3.3v, +5v, and most importantly the +12v Rails. Based on the hardware you have in your box, any planned upgrades and whether you overclock or not.
Some manufacturers/resellers to take a serious look at:
PC Power & Cooling
Zippy
Seasonic
Fortron Source (FSP Group)
Enermax
OCZ
Tagan
Antec

You could also get one modded from <A HREF="http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=22_270&osCsid=e3b90c060eadc3ed4726b618880c1361" target="_new"> Performance-pc's</A> if you wanted.
