My roomate just ordered a new system that he is going to build. The power supply he ordered is an Ultra X-Connect 500W modular thingie.

As soon as I heard that he spent only $70 USD, I was thinking "Hmm. He might have opted for a piece of crap."

Am I correct in this?

EDIT: The PSU was $80, but is rebated down to $50. Can you say RED FLAG?!

No one around here are fans of Ultra and even less of X-connect!!

But some people had luck with these PSU. Normally if you ask too much it will just die. It doesnt happen often, but it can take a few parts with him, but I wouldnt worry about it.

I guess your roomate could give it a shot, it certainly not the best PSU out there.

It will probally work fine putting out 300 watts.

You can get good power supplies for $70, Fortron Source for example.

Ulta power supplies fing suck dude. Wait and watch what happens....lol You'll be shocked. Ultra isn't an expert in Power supplies. SO far I know two people that had worse luck with them, and any at all is enough for me. 70 dollars is a good price knowing they were from 100-130 when they first came out. If they were such good products they would still be that expensive. Im sure. Prices dont drop like that for Excelent product. Buy anything but Ultra
