Hello

My question has to do with my second system, using a MSI KT4V KT400 6712.

My issue is that when I turn on the Power Strip, the system turns on! This happens even before I even touch the Off-On/Reset button. Turning off the system all is just fine and there is no wake-up issues! All the usual wake-up goodies having to do with things like the Modem and Nic are turned off. Its just it turns ON all by itself the minute I switch on the Power strip/Utility power bar for the system.

The case for this system is a full tower with only one button. Usually this one button cases work at, with a quick hold on the button for reset, and a long 3-4 sec count for the system to power off. In the past this Motherboard setup worked great without an issue on my other Mid-Tower case. This other case used the usual two button Power & Reset buttons.

Once upon a time I had the fix for this! I just can’t remember what it was? I had to do something like, not connect the Reset cable or something from the case to the mother board or switch something off/on in the BIOS? I just can’t remember! The case wiring has the usual Power Led, Power Switch, HDD Led, Reset Switch, Power Led and Speaker.

Any Suggestions?
I mean what am I missing here?
Thanks for your time.

Hey thanks for the reply!
Unfortuntely, I tried that one. The first time I went in the setting was already at OFF. I did try the other two ON and Previous State, neither worked. Any other ideas?

Thank you
Sincerely,

Sandman

On your mobo, "Power Button Function" and "After AC Power Loss" are set to On/Off and Power Off, respectively, correct? And holding the power button for roughly 5 seconds doesn't do the trick?

Try turning off the power strip, holding the power button for 5-10 seconds, then turn on the power strip, and finally press the button. I would suggest a CMOS reset if that doesn't work. As you may or may not know, this incident occurs because of a power failure or an interrupt. Do you remember if the system was in motion while the power strip was on and/or the system was on and thus causing a ground fault? If you haven't already, inspect the psw wire.
