When I try to shutdown my XP, my antivirus will close, my messager will close
and then I have to click on start, turn off computer and select turn off
again before it will start the shutdown and close.
Anything I need to look at that might be causing this hitch?

Thanks

A fragmented drive will cause slow startup and shutdown. Do a disk
cleanup and disk defrag.
