Hi,

A month ago my PC stopped working, I was unable to turn it on at the base. I took it to a PC repair shop who said that the motherboard would need replacing, when I got the PC back home after the new motherboard had been installed, I was unable to connect to the internet through windows. So I took it back to the repair shop, a couple of days later they told me that they couldn't connect to the internet using windows but could connect using Linux, I think it's called?...Anyway, they told me that the only solution that they could give me would be to reset the PC back to it's factory settings. I agreed to this hoping to get my PC like it was on day one when I bought it. The PC was fine for a couple of weeks, internet connection was fine and I was back playing Football Manager 2012, until last week, when while I was playing the game, it just freezed up. I was able to get onto task manager and end the game, thinking I would be able to just reload the game but that didn't happened. Everytime I try to load the game I keep getting the error message: Football Manager 2012 12.1.1f244099 has stopped working, whidows is checking a solution to the problem.

I have tried other game through STEAM ( which is what Football Manager is played on ). I have even tried Championship Manager 01/02! Which manages to load up to the game menu, but when I click on start new game, I get the message: There is not enough available system memory to create the game. Please free up some more and try again. Which I don't understand if the PC has been reset to it's factory settings!?.

Here is a DXDIAG of my system, please help!

First off you should get a better video card for games, the onboard Intel video from a dual core E2200 based system would be horrible for games. Like using scissors to cut the lawn of a soccer stadium. Not what you want to be using.

To fix the error, try to to into the BIOS of the system and increase the memory available to the video card. Won't hurt to go to the vendor's web site and install the latest drivers, chipset, video, audio, networking. Whoever works in that PC shot is a bit of a dolt, the issue you could not get online is because when they replaced the motherboard, they did not re-install any drivers for the system under Windows.

A proper tech would have taken care of that, as well as suggested you get a real video card for games.

If you have about $50 to spend, and post your system brand / model, we'd be able to suggest a video card your PC can run.

Hi hang-the-9.

Thanks for your reply.

Just to let you know, I'm from Scotland UK, so not sure you would have the same systems as me where you live.

I have a Packard Bell IMEDIA 2316AIO, just so you know.

Strange thing is though, I never had an issue with the mentioned PC games, so I wasn't sure if they has installed an inferior motherboard than what I had originally, if that's possible. Not sure if that would have anything to do with the running of the game anyhow.

I have found a few graphics/video cards from a website in the UK, not sure if you would know about any of these? Any recommendation would be helpful.

And when you say.. "the the onboard Intel video from a dual core E2200 based system would be horrible for games".

Do you mean the -

Display Devices
---------------
Card name: Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family ?

As that is what the repair shop installed into my PC

Yes, that "display devices". If your games ran faster (or at all in your case), you could have had a faster onboard video card, or even an external card. Don't see any specs online for that model of PC, and I can't open the link you posted for some reason.

Need to check the power supply wattage of the PC, if it's about a 300 watt one you'll be able to get a pretty good card.

I think the OP has a 250W PSU, from looking up that Packard model. If he was running the game before, it should still be able to now. The GMA 3100 isn't the worst thing Intel released, and that's pretty much as good as he can do with that system and PSU; he could probably squeak by with an entry level card, but then he's putting £50-60 into a card for a system that's getting close to its last leg anyway.

Try increasing the amount of memory Windows gives to its onboard memory graphics before anything else as hang initially suggested. If that doesn't work, perhaps try deleting and reinstalling Football Manager.

The HD 6570 (from the page you provided) or HD5570 or HD5670 should work in that, given the integrity of the power supply, if you are desperate for an easier graphics fix, and it should be good enough to take to your next system if you upgrade in the future. You will want to check the motherboard to make certain it has a PCI-express slot before you make any purchases though.

To fix the error, try to to into the BIOS of the system and increase the memory available to the video card

In response to the above, on the BIOS screen, it mentions Internal Graphics Mode Select with the options, Auto (which has already been selected), Enabled 1MB, and Enabled 8MB.

What would you recommend?

Hi Joafu,

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure if in my above post is what I need to increase to 8MB?

That does not sound like the right option. Video card should be using the system RAM for itself, and way more than 8mb. Leave that setting on Auto. There should be something else that allows you to set how much shared RAM the card uses. But even that won't offset a slow card much. See if driver updates will fix things. Also maybe you are running the game with higher settings than you used to.

Is there any chance you have created a backup of your games/computer and steam is trying to run the game from the backup? That error you described usually relates to not enough harddrive space, but you do have space which makes me think there is a backup somewhere and it's trying to run from this rather than the correct version.

check the below links:

See if driver updates will fix things.

Sorry, do you mean update drivers for the Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family ? or update drivers through windows?

I made a backup of my saved game but only after this problem kept occuring.

I have the disc the came with the new motherboard, there are drivers on that, one is named VGA Driver, which I'm guessing is for video graphics? Would it be any harm to reinstall this?

I clicked the link you provided and updated the Graphics Driver, as there was a newer one available,
Product Detected

Intel® G33/G31

Current Driver Installed

7.15.10.1666

I then restarted my computer, and tried my Football Manager 2012 game, and it still won't go on.

Is there anything else I need to do after restarting my computer?

I uninstalled the game and steam, reinstalled both and still the same situation persists. I am unable to view youtube videos, so there is definitely a problem with the graphics on my pc. I tried to download adobe flash player, to watch youtube clips. However during the download I get the error message that the computer is unable to locate component d3d9.dll. I have read up about this component and it appears that this is required for multimedia applications and games. i.e. fm12 and youtube. Can anyone help on how to fix this problem?

Try installing DirectX 9.

One thing that may have happened is that when the game crashed, some of the files that were open were corrupted by the crash... i.e. you need to have a fresh install of the game and see if it works without restoring the backed up files. Backing up corrupted files will restore corrupted files. After the fresh install of your Windows, did you happpen to install the relevent drivers for your onboard videom sound etc?

Some techs will do the bare minimum, once they see a desktop they stop short of installing drivers. Some are just idiots and some don't really care past that.

Hi Migrax,

I have tried installing directx 9, and have installed all drivers. I'm still not getting anywhere. I am stumped at what to do next.

The Intel video is bad for games, your old motherboard was probably a different brand with a better card.

That video card you have is ranked 690 on the PassMark charts, to be a decent card for gaming, it needs to be around 150, even for lower settings in newer games.

If you look in device manager, are all the items installed properly?
