I have 2 PCs networked through a router (very short cable length). I know there are many factors that affect the final speed, but is getting ~60% of Network Utilization (obtained from Windows Task Manager) common? I'm trying to get closer to 100Mbps.
Maybe it's just me (and everyone else) but you don't have to achieve 100% utilization.
Why?
You're using everything up. If something should change or need more bandwidth, there is nothing else to give. At 60% you're on the brink of being a congested network. You'll want around 10-15% network utilization.
Now playing on the idea that you have 2 PCs and nothing else to worry about, you want to use everything possible because all of your factors are factored in.
60% is doing good.
What kind of system are you running on?
Let's say you're copying a 1GB file from computer A to computer B.
You're transfer rate is around 60MB and nothing more.
Why? How fast can you hard disk drive write? Probably around 65MB.
