I am currently in the market for a laptop, and am looking at the XPS Gen 2 and the Inspiron 9300.

My question is if the XPS is worth 1000 dollars more than the 9300? I would upgrade the video on the 9300 to the 256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 6800.

Effectively, the difference in spec would have the XPS with a Go 6800 Ultra and P770 2.13GHz while the 9300 would have a Go 6800 with a P750 1.86 GHz. I am not aware of much other difference, although if someone can point anything out it would be appreciated.

I don't mind spending the money, that's not so much an issue as long as I am getting value for my dollar. I have not previously purchased a notebook, and have no intention of getting a new one every year. As such, I am looking for a lifespan of about 4 years.

Just a note. My current PC is only a 1.3GHz TBird and it has served me fine up to now. The only real upgrade I have done since I initially bought it was to add a GeForce 4 4600 a few years back. Obviously it's past time for an upgrade, and I intend to replace it with the notebook.

To rephrase, I am looking for something that will be towards the higher end now, and still viable in 4 years. I guess my question is whether the extra 1000 dollars for the XPS Gen 2 will add that much value over time.

Thanks in advance for your input.
