My computer's hard drive went kpui last weekend and my spousal unit took
it to the "geek Squad", and paid them to hear the same thing I said -
the hard drive is dead. We paid them to replace it (which is being done
, I suppose, even at this moment). They asked if we wanted to pay them
to replace the operating system. Now I have the OS disk for the
computer. What I need to know, can I install it by putting it into the
disk drive, booting it up, choosing Cd drive as the boot up and let it
install, or do I have to pay the geeks to do it?
Thanks a lot!

Hi KMP,

Before paying the geeks to do it, give it a go yourself, following Michael

Assuming you have a full retail copy of xp rather than a recovery disk
supplied by the pc manufacturer (recovery disks are simple enough to
install) you might want to visit my website http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org
Click the Win XP Faq button and take a look at question 85. The shows you
how to install windows xp and is illustrated for greater clarity.
