my monitor has vga and dvi female ports. the xbox has hdmi and the 3 tv cables (component?) i know the hdmi to vga has some form of error, and i would much prefer to not have to give up my dvi slot which i use for my pc.

so what to do?

You monitor may be smart enough to recognize your xbox and automatically select the best settings.

And if you don't want to give up your dvi slot, just put your computer on the vga and your xbox on the dvi?

VGA or DVI, if you can connect it to your monitor then youl find that the monitor would automatically recognize the signal on the connector and tell you the best setting...

why not use an HDMI on a TV?

Monitors have a faster response time. You can get them at 2ms where tvs are like 5ms. Not a big deal for the average gamer, but can give you a slight edge for super competitive gamers.

I would say connect your computer with the vga and your xbox with the dvi(just get an adapter for hdmi to dvi)

Times add up 3ms here 2ms there. I said the average gamer won't notice but the serious high end gamers will notice a slight difference. If you don't understand, don't believe me, or don't care, its not going to make me lose any sleep.

AntiZig, stop hating. If your not a top level gamer its ok, neither am I. But I follow it very closely, there is a reason they make and promote them with faster response times.

Like I said times ad up.

you will need something in order to get sound
i have two female-female... composite? adaptors and a thing that i can plug into said adaptors and then i plug a speaker into that and it works

i have no idea what half this stuff is called but the guy at the shop knew what i was on about when i described it
